Abstract

The aim of the current research is sociological analysis of the gender dominant stereotypes on women's sports. The current research was conducted as qualitative research using thematic analysis method. Therefore, 150 valid researches from the set of scientific researches in reliable scientific databases focusing on gender stereotypes in sports were analyzed and coded as a purposeful sampling based on conceptual commonality. In general, out of 8 basic (main) themes, 4 organizing themes were extracted and finally, a semantic theme that draws and analyzes the network of themes related to gender dominante stereotypes women's sports. The research validation method was also applied based on the presentation and feedback of the research results to the experts for its final approval. Based on the theme analysis of research data, four organizing themes including gender identity stereotypes, body identity stereotypes, sports identity stereotypes and finally, media representation of gender stereotypes in women's sports were identified, which were able to reveal the central theme of gender dominante stereotypes women's sports. In general, gender stereotypes cover a wide range of women's sports, from the athlete's appearance to her gender identity, women's sports performance, and finally the type of their representation. Therefore, female athletes as well as many influential players in sports can eliminate gender stereotypes that are like a strong wall in front of the progress of female athletes.
