Abstract

This study aimed to identify strategies for promoting active leisure time among transgender individuals in Iran. Methods: The research employed a qualitative approach, utilizing a thematic analysis strategy to propose solutions. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 16 experts, including university professors, sports managers, and social science researchers, as well as through a review of existing theoretical studies. Data analysis was conducted using MaxQDA 2022 software and thematic analysis based on the steps outlined by Braun and Clarke (2006). The findings revealed three main strategies for promoting active leisure time among transgender individuals: strategic, educational, research, and social. Strategic strategies include legal support, policymaking, and the provision of sports and recreational opportunities. Academic and research strategies emphasize educational reforms, inclusivity, awareness-raising, and cultural development. Social strategies involve empowerment and social support, religious and social participation, social welfare, and family and community involvement. The discussion and conclusion emphasize the necessity of creating inclusive and supportive environments, developing anti-discrimination policies, and providing public education about transgender issues to enhance their participation in physical activities and improve their mental and physical health. This study underscores the need for collaboration among policymakers, educators, and local communities to establish inclusive and supportive sports and recreational environments for transgender individuals
