Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of identifying the cultural competencies of physical education teachers.To achieve this goal, a qualitative method and thematic analysis approach based on Braun and Clarke's framework (2006) were employed, conducted from spring to winter of 2024.This research is applied in nature, and the participants included faculty members from the University of Farhangian and physical education teachers.The selection criteria for participants were having advanced degrees and working in organizational studies. Based on the theoretical saturation criterion and using purposive sampling, a total of 12 interviews were conducted. The main research tool was a semi-structured exploratory interview. For validity, data were reviewed by experts, and reliability was verified through intra-rater agreement. After the interviews, the data were analyzed using coding and were categorized into distinct themes. To increase the credibility of the results, an intra-rater agreement of 85% was achieved, indicating coherence and validity of the findings in the analyses. Based on the findings, the factors affecting the cultural competencies of physical education teachers include cultural awareness, communication skills, ongoing training and education,educational and organizational policies, multi-method teaching techniques, the development of social capabilities, understanding and respect for cultural rights, parent and community education, and the continuous improvement of cultural competencies.Therefore, it is concluded that to enhance the cultural competencies of physical education teachers, conducting training workshops, strengthening communication skills,developing supportive policies, using multi-method teaching techniques, and respecting cultural rights should be considered.These actions can contribute to improving educational and cultural quality in physical education settings.
