Abstract
The present study aimed to present a structural model of the relationship between the task-oriented motivational climate of the physical education class and student flourishing with the mediating role of perceived physical literacy. The present study was a descriptive-correlational study with a structural equation modeling approach. The statistical population included second-year high school students in Tehran in the academic year 1404-1405, from whom 386 people were selected using a multistage cluster sampling method. Data were collected using the motivational climate questionnaire of the physical education class, the perceived physical literacy questionnaire, and the flourishing scale. Data analysis was performed using structural equation modeling. The task-oriented motivational climate of the physical education class had a direct and significant effect on perceived physical literacy (β = 0.63, P < 0.001) and students' flourishing (β = 0.24, P = 0.002). Also, perceived physical literacy positively and significantly predicted flourishing (β = 0.51, P < 0.001). In addition, perceived physical literacy played a significant mediating role in the relationship between the motivational climate of the physical education class and flourishing (β = 0.15, P = 0.047). The proposed model had an acceptable fit and was able to explain 44.4% of the variance in students' flourishing. The results show that students who perceived the physical education class climate as more task-oriented simultaneously reported higher levels of perceived physical literacy and flourishing.
