Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the effects of socialcognitive factors on exercise behavior among students of Jahrom University. Statistical Society of the study was students of Jahrom University and sample population is 327 students. For this purpose perceived risk of heart disease (Ammouri and Neuberger, 2008), outcome-expectancies for exercise (Resnick, 2005), perceived self-efficacy for exercise (Schwarzer, 1994), intention to exercise (Sniehotta et al, 2005), and exercise behavior (Godin et al, 1986) Questionnaires was used. Based on the result of structural equation modeling, research instruments had the acceptable reliability and Diagnostic Validity. For data analysis and identification the effect of research variables, Structural equation modeling used to Smart PLS Software was used. Findings showed, the effect of outcome expectancies (t=5.47, β=0.36) on intention to exercise is significant but on exercise behavior is not significant (t=0.61, β=0.049).Other finding showed that perceived risk of heart disease (t=0.43, β= -0.029) was not significant effect on intention to exercise. Also the effect of Intention to exercise (t=3.23, β=0.26), and perceived self-efficacy (t=2.17, β=0.18) on exercise behavior was significant. Enhancing knowledge of benefits of exercise as well as increasing individuals’ ability to overcome barriers of exercise among the students, can be recommended by this research.
