Abstract
The main issue of the study is which social factors are the basis of sports distinction in Iran. Accordingly, the present study attempted to examine it using a set of related conceptual/theoretical structures, including the concepts of cultural capital, economic capital, social capital, habitus, and field. The thematic analysis method was used in this study, and data were collected using the in-depth interview technique. The participants of the study were sports sociology and sports management that 17 of whom were interviewed by using purposive sampling. the collected information was coded and analyzed in 16 categories and was finally placed under 6 themes - different natural potentials, distinction in capital, distinct habitus, field determination, cultural-gender logic, and sports distinction. The results indicate that the sports distinction in Iran is individual matter and is influenced by sports habitus and the ownership of various forms of capital, especially cultural capital and economic capital of athletes, and on the other hand, it is a socio-structural matter that is influenced by the specific logic of the sports field and the determination of field relations, including the influence of the fields of media, education, family, power, peers, and the field of culture. the role of different fields of media, power, culture, education, and peers in the formation of sports action and distinction on the one hand, and the cultural and political aspects of the logic of the sports field on the other hand, indicate the relatively weak independence of the sports field in Iran
